Field Day with Dr. Martin Entz

Come enjoy a field walk with Dr. Martin Entz from the University of Manitoba.  At the field tour you will learn about how grain selection works and what you can expect if you are interested in new grain variety development for your farm. Flat Earth farm is a participant in the Participatory Plant Breeding system for Wheat, Oats, and Potatoes, at this fieldwalk you'll learn about the power of PPBs, why they are important, and how you can participate next year. 
Flat Earth Farm is on the south edge of the City of Ottawa, and includes 17 acres of land for agroecological food production. With the goal of maximizing biodiversity, the farm contains a mix of over 100 edible trees and bushes (17 varieties), and a large selection of perennial and annual crops standard to the region, as well as test plots of a number of grains, cover crops and legumes (including grain amaranth, sorghum, flax, chick peas, millet, kamut)—along with a mix of small livestock.
Phil Mount is the Associate Director of Just Food and a researcher with the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems.
